Article Updated: 28 April 2021

Viber app offers similar feature like Snapchat‘s signature feature to delete photo/video message after opening/seeing/reading it. It is no longer exclusive to Snapchat and it’s now getting available in many popular messaging apps. Here’s a short tutorial that explains how to send a time-limited self-deleting video or photo in Viber. This feature is only available in 1-to-1 conversations e.g. you cannot use self-deleting timer feature in Groups for the time being.

Viber App (2021): How To Initiate Self-Deleting Conversation / How To Send Auto Deleting Text, GIF, Photo or Video message

In latest versions of Viber messenger app creating self-deleting messages is little different

  1. Start Viber App on your phone/tablet
  2. Select CONTACT that you wish to chat with
  3. Tap on TIMER icon at the bottom row:
  4. Select predefined self-delete timer value (e.g. 10 seconds, 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day or OFF):
  5. All messages that you type or media files that you send from now on in selected conversation will self-delete after predefined period of time until you repeat above steps and set OFF value for self-delete timer!

If you create a screenshot of self-deleting message, Viber will auto-post You took a screenshot message in conversation window, so that other party knows what’s going on and that you captured a message! The feature is a bit rough at the moment and it will generate this notification even if you take a screenshot before any message was actually sent e.g. just because you select a predefined timer value and take a screenshot of that screen alone.
